Piano in the Plaza opened on Sunday, August 1st with the unveiling of the piano's transformation by local artist, Thomasin Dewhurst (with help from her students at Bothwell Arts Center/Livermore Arts). The piano was hand painted with portraits of American musicians and images of roses. Tri-Valley writer award-winning students added their poems and prose to the piano. The opening included classical musical performances by student musicians from Amador Valley High School's award-winning music department.
Following the launch event, the piano remained open to the public to play on. Piano in the Plaza was a fundraiser for the local Hill and Valley Club's PENNIES FOR KIDS program.
The piano was acquired by QUEST SCIENCE CENTER to use in conjunction with their Science and Music events and other projects.
